Hydroxypropyl methyl celluloses are water soluble polymers derived from cellulose. They are typically used as thickeners, binders, film formers, and water retention agents. They also function as suspension aids, surfactants, lubricants, protective colloids, and emulsifiers. In addition, solutions of these polymers thermally gel.
